Chinese chess masters compete in national champs

National champion Lai Ly Huynh took the lead after three rounds of the National Chinese Chess Team Championships, which is ongoing in Da Nang.

Huynh of Binh Duong won all three matches in the men’s standard class and has three points, the same as Nguyen Cong Chuong of Khanh Hoa and Nguyen Minh Nhat Quang from HCM City but with a better parameter.

He will next play Chuong while Quang will play Vu Huu Cuong of Ha Noi, who is now at No. 13.

On the women’s side, HCM City Nguyen Hoang Yen, the No. 1 seed, is on top after three matches.

Kieu Bich Thuy of Ha Noi is second, also with three points, followed by Ngo Lan Huong, from HCM City.

Yen and Thuy will meet in the next round today while Huong will checkmate teammate Doan Thi Thuy Dung, who is in fourth place.

In the mixed doubles pool, Binh Dinh are leading with two wins. HCM City and Ba Ria-Vung Tau are second and third, respectively.

The national championship has attracted nearly 120 masters from 15 teams. The standard Chinese chess is from May 22 to 27 and the rapid and blitz category is on May 28-31 at Tien Son Sports Centre.
